Oh my gosh, it lives! James has updated his diary! I'd suggest everyone run over there and peek before he changes his mind and replaces the whole thing with a picture of Barney the Dinosaur and an MP3 of "The Happy Family" song.

His question about proving devotion is one of the excluded middle. Not only can I enjoy a good, sound paddling at the hands of my top, I also enjoy providing her with a nice meal, or showing up with flowers as well. Being a kinkster doesn't mean you're not romantic as well. I actually think the two things frequently go hand in hand. Displays of devotion do indeed have many forms, and all of them are a delight for me. So, you've got it pretty easy where you are James... Though, I think deep down inside, there's a bit of a masochist in Sleipy. Why else would the Humble Knight be so drawn to his relationship with Babajaga? Oh, the sweet, sweet suffering!

Speaking of closet kinksters, I had a long conversation last night with a friend who is connecting to his "top within." Seems his current state of mind and his current partner combined with my incessant talking about the topic has planted a seed. And he's enjoying it greatly. "You know," he said, "when you first started talking about this, I thought I was completely vanilla. Now, I'm not so sure." One hurdle for him was the misconception that to become a top, you need to be a bottom first. Bottoming has no appeal to him at all. Well, SM doesn't work that way, it's not like you have to earn various merit badges to qualify. You just explore what feels right to you. With that mental restriction lifted, he's starting to explore. I am happy for him and his lady, who seems to be enjoying this new part of him quite a bit.
