Conny and I saw Hannibal today. Two words sum it up pretty well: "Don't bother." As much as I went in willing to work with it, it just never offered much of anything. It was a competently done film, with decent performances, but it had no edge or tension. It wasn't scary or suspenseful.

German movie theatres play more ads than American ones, I found out. They are also cheaper. We went to the matinee, and paid around $3.50. Mind you, we went to a slightly art-house type of theatre that plays "original" (i.e. not dubbed, no subtitles) films. Still, probably the most enjoyable aspect of seeing the film for me was knowing we didn't pay that much. The most enjoyable aspect of the film for Conny was it offered her a chance to take a nap.

After the film we walked around the nightlife district of Munich, Schwabing. Lots of cute cafes and restaurants lined the streets. We went into the Munich Cafe, appropriately enough. I got very lucky, since the menu had English as well as German on it. I considered stealing it to use as a rosetta stone at other restaurants, but after a slap or two from Conny I decided that it was in bad form. This place served us both American sized dinner portions that neither of us could finish.

We tried to hook up with a friend of Conny's, but he was occupied, so we were left with returning home somewhat early. What a damn shame that turned out to be... I'm going to have to get some tourist guide to Munich and study it on the plane home so when people at work ask me what I saw, I can sound like Conny and I actually got out of the bedroom once in awhile.
