One drawback to life in Conny's mansion: The bathroom is actually some journey away from the bedroom. Ordinarily, this wouldn't present a problem, since I rarely need to use toilet at night; I just wet the bed. But, out of consideration for Conny, I thought getting up was better. I think tonight I won't bother, though. One night of being nice is enough. She should get a cart to shuttle back and forth to the bathroom if she expects me to travel that far.
Dinner last night was a delight. Conny took me to a place called Stinky Pete's (I think that's the translation, could be wrong) where they serve real Bavarian food. The only Bavarian food I've ever had before this was a Bavarian kreme donut from Dunkin' Donuts, and I didn't really care for it. But, I wanted to be polite, since Conny is letting me wet her bed and all, so I was game. She invited her friends Peter and Elizabeth to join us. We picked them up, and shoved them in the back of her tiny go-kart, and scooted off in the drizzle to the restaurant. Luckily for this ignorant American, both of them speak English quite well, or at least they were polite enough to pretend they understood my jokes, and they laughed. That's all I need, really. Trying to blend in, I opted for a beer, which I never really drink. German beer is good, actually, but I'm probably the last person of age on the planet to discover this. Conny, being responsible because she was driving the go-kart, took it easy with the alcohol, and ordered a coke mixed with beer. I can't wait to come back to the U.S. and try to order that. I want to see the look on the bartender's face. Conny drank it though, without making loud retching sounds that I was expecting, so maybe it's not bad. I think I'll stick to rum in my coke for the time being, or maybe just coke and coke. The food was quite good. I got some pork leg thing and a shredded potato ball. It was pretty filling. I don't remember what the other people got, because I was focused on making sure the potato ball didn't roll away. One of the specialties of Stinky Pete's is a giant dessert "pancake" served with this tart fruit and cream topping. You order it for the table, since it's so massive. Conny called it a giant pancake, but that in no way prepared me for what came. They bring the pan to the table, and sure enough, this large pan is filled with cake. Not like a flat pancake, or a crepe, but something that is filling the pan, to the edge. Like a cake. The waitress then cut the cake into slabs, and served it to us. It was very, very heavy. But the real reason I knew it wasn't a pancake was there was no syrup on the table. Even though it was a frankly faux "pancake", it was a good dessert. The four of us ate slightly more than half of the thing before we were left gasping for air. This great feast was had for a tiny amount of money. The dinner, for four of us, with a round of drinks, and massive dessert was a little less than $60. I was told Stinky Pete's is one of the more expensive places too. What a deal! If I lived in Munich, I wouldn't even need a pot to cook in! We called it a night fairly early, around 10PM or so. Conny and I were ready for a good night's sleep, that's for sure. Today, we prepared for Sunday night's activity, which is a fondue dinner here with a group of her friends. We went to a supermarket that would put a US megamarket to shame. This place was ridiculous. You could fill your cart with a power saw, a load of groceries, and clothing... It was mammoth. I did see a jar (yes a jar) of hot dogs floating in some mysterious liquid. The jar was labeled "Hot Dogs American Style." In all my life, I have never seen a jar of embalmed hot dogs any where in the America I live in... We are soon off to a night of drinking and dancing. Apparently the venue is an all you can drink for one price place, and from last night's conversation at dinner, it's clear it's an adventure. "Don't wear anything too nice" warns Conny. I think she means make sure my clothing won't be stained by spilled drinks or flying vomit.
