Fabulous, Sweetie!
It's never a dull a moment when Michael arrives from Bermuda. From the hotel he stays at, the swanky Hudson, to the places he wants to check out. The only saving grace is he is just as broke as I am, so it puts the brakes on going to all those pricey, trendy restaurants he wants to check out. It's also easy to forgive him his excesses since he's a great cook, and enjoys doing it. At least for his visit this time, my kitchen was better stocked with the tools of the trade. Preferring to spend our entertainment budget on some clubs, we did the dinner at home thing, a la Michael. Delicious as always, and done so effortlessly too. We hit the streets around 10:30pm, and began our tour of Very Gay New York. With a list of a few new possibilities and his knowledge of a few regular stand-bys, we had lots of options to persue. I've gone out with Michael before. Usually it was with Michael and Oliver, his boyfriend, who is far overseas right now, working. I don't mind going to the gay clubs. It's a lively scene, and it's flattering to get hit on once in awhile. Since I never got in the habit of going to clubs to look for women, the absence (or seriously reduced numbers) doesn't bother me. I just like to spend time with Michael and Oliver, and I have a good time when I'm with them, so the location isn't a big deal. I almost think it would be a good exercise for a lot of heterosexual men to receive some good natured advances from gay men. Perhaps some insights could be gained about what it's like to receive unwanted attention. I bet any man who's dealt with such (without having a fit or resorting to violence) will treat women a lot better. There's a big difference between someone expressing interest in a respectful way, which is a compliment, and someone being pushing, which is just annoying. All the lines and roles for sexuality are rapidly blurring for me. Gay, straight, vanilla, kinky... These categories just make it easier to get a handle on the complexity of human sexuality. As I grow more and more into my own sexuality each day, the variety of ways to express and connect with the people I care about grows.
