A knot a day
Bondage is a technical skill. Like many technical skills, reading can only go so far. Watching others is helpful, but that too, can only go so far. At some point, you've got to get your hands on some rope, and get busy. This is really important if you want to use bondage as a part of an erotic scene. Bondage that is clumsy or poorly done will probably not be enjoyed by your playmate. So it's wise to spend some time just experimenting with the rope outside of the context of doing a scene. One difficulty with doing this is the need for a helpful model. You can do a fair amount of practice without another person, especially on the fundamentals. Eventually, though, the interesting physics and dynamics of the body being bound becomes important, and there's nothing quite like the real thing. Before I was lucky enough to find Conny, I would cajole any patient and open-minded friends into standing still for 15 minutes while I tried to apply the various techniques I was trying to learn. Such opportunities, though helpful, were too few and far between. Now I don't have to look far at all. During Conny's last visit, I realized that we just weren't using rope that much, or at least, I didn't. Why am I not doing something I love? I thought about it during her last absence, and I realized it's my perfectionist nature. I was hesitant to use the rope because I don't feel competent enough with it. The only way to solve that problem is practice, practice and... well, you know: more practice. So now we try to set aside a bit of time at least every other day to do just this. It's kink homework, basically. Now, I've never been good at doing homework, but so far it hasn't been a problem with this. One side effect is sometimes these informal practice sessions turn into full blown scenes. Not that I'm complaining, or anything...
