Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana
Gosh, where did all the time go? Bad, bad Mr. Nosuch. Between long, busy days at work, and packed nights, I've let too much dust pile up here. Where are my manners? Let me get out my broom and catch up a bit. We got home from D.C. pretty late Sunday night, due to New Jersey traffic, pulling up to the apartment around 11 p.m. I hauled the bags upstairs while Conny watched over the car, since parking in front of my building is essentially impossible. It was then my job to return the car to the rental place about 9 blocks downtown. Fortune smiled upon me on my stroll home, though. I passed by a concert venue that was advertising Rammstein coming on Wednesday. Conny had tickets to see Rammstein in Munich, but because she extended her visit here, she gave away the ticket. Now, in Germany Rammstein is a huge band. They perform in the Munich Olympic Stadium, and draw a big crowd. Here in the U.S., they've got a bit more a cult following, but it's growing. They got some great exposure on the Matrix soundtrack with the song "Du Hast." Now, I'm not really a headbanging type of guy, but to Rammstein I can get in the mood for it. I've also heard they put on an outrageous show, with pyrotechnics, and all sorts of other dramatic nonsense. I figured taking the girl to the show would be a nice way to make up for her missing it in Germany. Plus, the venue in the U.S. is much smaller, so it'll be a lot more intimate of a show. I figured they'd be sold out, but we managed to score tickets, and they were not expensive at all. So, we now knew what we'd be doing Wednesday night. So, the week was packed. Monday I was helping my ex-wife move. Tuesday was a T.E.S. meeting. Wednesday was the concert. Thursday and Friday were for meeting with Clan Lord people at Macworld. Sheesh. Never mind that work is busy as hell. Busy in a good kind of way, at least. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it to Tuesday's T.E.S. meeting, in which our friend Lorialan was one of the presenters. Conny came down with a bit of a bug, so going out wasn't an option. Damn shame, too, because we really both wanted to go. It was going to be a demonstration of flogging techniques. Conny and I just added a wonderful suede Lashes by Sarah flogger to our toy box, and we were keen for tips on technique. At least we can hope for a personal lesson from her some time. Wednesday night, we headed for the concert, and it was just great. I've never gone to a show where there was a mosh pit with slam dancing and crowd surfing. I'll save the juicy details on the experience for another time, though. Thursday night was the second annual Macworld Clan Lord player meet. I got to meet yet another member of the Rat Bastards, Mortis, as well as a non-clanning friend of his, Jack (who really should clan, just so I can hang with him). Michael also made it, as well as good ol' Thadius and Alayn. Damn if I didn't laugh my ass off that night. Mortis kept reeling off better and better self-incriminating stories as he consumed more and more booze. He is quite a character, but I recommend seeing him only when Jack is around, because he provides an excellent reality check to some of Mortis' taller tales. We managed to stagger out to another bar to hook up with J'nder, who was tons of fun. Conny and I were fading at this point, so we had to scoot. We're scheduled to have lunch with J'nder on Saturday, so I'm hoping to get a full report of what happened after we left. Friday night turned out to be quiet. Most of the Macworld people decided to make a run for it, so Conny and I enjoyed a drink or two at the meeting place just in case some stragglers showed up. It turned into a romantic evening for two, and we actually came home and cooked together. Frankly, after the week we had, I was glad to get home early. I'm turning into an old man, I suppose. But at least this old man can still cut it at a Rammstein concert. Sorta.
