Swing!

I swear it wasn't my idea. She wanted to do it. Kept asking me when we were going to go. She went all last year without going. So, finally, as part of the continuing series on belated birthday observance, we went.

Yankees vs. Tampa Bay at Yankee Stadium.

Luckily, this birthday activity was a surprise, though Conny guessed what we were doing when the subway stopped and tons of people wearing Yankee shirts and caps got on. But by that point, we were practically there.

Through work I scored us some great box seats, right near home plate, allowing us to enjoy a prime baseball experience without denting my wallet. And since we were trying to be good Americans we were sure to enjoy some prime ballpark food and ballpark beer. In spite of neither of us being baseball fans, we had a great time, and it was a good game. Thank goodness the Yankees won. I can't bring my girl to a game where our team loses, after all.

And best of all, on the scoreboard in the middle of the sixth inning, my wife looked up and saw her name in a birthday greeting from me. That was the only home run of the game, but it was the only one I needed.
