Hail to the Thief
Excuse me if I am a little skeptical of George W. "there's a crisis in Iraq" Bush current crusade about the "crisis with Social Security." Seeing that W. has no problem running up a huge national debt, I'm a bit wary of his views on national financial planning. It's like getting your retirement investing advice from a guy who has maxed out all his credit cards. Frankly, I think the U.S. has more pressing problems, like the current health care crisis, or our growing trade imbalance and massive debt, but since those problems are hard and real, George won't touch them. It is much easier to "solve" a non-existent problem with policies that will only start to really screw things up long after you are out of office. George wants to "fix" Social Security like he's "fixed" Iraq: I will destroy it to save it. In the meantime, taking a page from his buddy Ken Lay, this administration just keeps cooking up the national books to tell the story it wants, even if that story has nothing to do with reality. But if I recall, that tactic only worked so long at Enron, and I suspect it will work even less well at a national level. I just wonder if I'll have a chance to buy the President's chair on eBay when the country goes bankrupt.
